Something that many of our Members and fans may not realize is that Winemaker Rob Lloyd and his cellar team continually experiment in the winery.
In the case of our 2013 Truchard Pinot Noir Block II, the Truchard family gave us access to source fruit from this unique block, which is a mix of Swan and Martini clones.
Our perennial Los Carneros Pinot Noir release is a blend from three other Truchard blocks, which are seated further east of Block II.
With Block II, Rob discovered that the fruit created a wine higher in acid compared to the other eastern blocks. The team decided to keep a portion of Block II separate and test its ageability for future blending.
The outcome was so good the decision was made to release the 2013 Truchard Pinot Noir Block II as a single bottling.
This is a micro-lot release of less than 100 cases. On the nose you're greeted with aromas of earth and worn leather with black cherries, cola and crushed blackberries. Warm cloves and stony minerality linger throughout a long finish.
